Sum Builder

Sums can build mountains! If you don't believe us, try out these puzzles!

You will be given a mountain that contains lots of individual pieces of mud that join together to create the filled mountain.

Some of those pieces will have numbers in and some don't.

You need to use your new found maths skills to work out which numbers must go where as quickly as possible. And you don't need to guess.

What you need to know is that a number above two other pieces is the sum of those two pieces. So if you have '17' and '12' under an empty square, that must be 17 + 12 = 29.

Sometimes you will need to go the other way round and perform a subtraction. For instance if you have 17 + ? = 29, then you know that ? is 29 - 17 which is 12.

So this puzzle is great for helping you learn to manipulate numbers and do something called re-arranging a maths equation. And it's fun too, and really satisfying to solve a puzzle.

Once you've read through the above and understood what you need to do, it's time to...
